Entrance Ceremony for 2022

On April 1, we held an entrance ceremony for the Sumitomo Riko Group.

I wanted to meet and talk with everyone, but due to the Corona pandemic, I attended the ceremony from the Global Head Office, and Chairman Matsui attended from the Komaki Head Office/Plant, and the ceremony was relayed via the web to the Matsusaka Plant, Saitama Plant, and Fuji Susono Plant.

Thank you to everyone who helped hold the event.

As a congratulatory speech, I made the following messages to the 81 new employees and 39 career employees who joined the company or were promoted to employees.

To our new employees

Congratulations to all of you on joining the Sumitomo Riko Group.

I am very pleased to be able to work with you all as we move toward our 100th anniversary.

The future is uncertain with the spread of the novel coronavirus, the reduction of automobile production due to the shortage of semiconductors, and furthermore, the turmoil in the world situation.

However, even under such a severe environment, we are moving forward with our business activities to generate new values.

For example, we have developed "Steering Touch Sensors" to support automatic driving, "Finesulight," a thin-film high thermal insulation material that contributes to solutions for environmental issues, and "MONILIFE," which measures vital data. We are steadily expanding the scope of our business and are working hard every day to evolve into a true systems supplier.

I would like to encourage all of you to move forward with various new perspectives, without being bound by precedents.

Chairman Matsui has conveyed to you the Sumitomo Spirit's concept of “Shinyo-kakujitsu” and “Fusu-furi”. In addition to these two, I also attach great importance to the phrase, "Banji-nissei”, meaning “Face everything with all your heart and soul”. I hope that you will keep this in mind as well.

Finally, I would like to say the following two things to all of you who will play important parts in the future of our company.

The first is to "take on challenges" and "work through them”.

I encourage you to challenge yourselves in a variety of ways, and to accomplish your goals. Achieving something will give you a taste of growth, which will lead you to your next stage of growth.

The second is "communication.

If you have any concerns, need advice, or want to check something, please do not keep it to yourself, but immediately consult with your supervisor or coworkers, no matter what the issue is.

As soon as the Corona pandemic subsides, I will try to communicate directly with you in person, both inside and outside the company.

I look forward to your youthful energy in promoting our slogan for 2022, "Creating a corporate culture that responds flexibly to change without being bound by past concepts”.

Let's work hard together!

To our Senior Employees

We have as many as 120 new colleagues who have joined our company.

I sincerely ask for your support through good communication and appropriate guidance.

Please think back to when you were new employees.

I am sure there was support that made you happy along with guidance that troubled you.

I would like to ask you not to follow the past, saying, "That's how I grew up”. Rather, please be flexible to changes without “Being bound by past concepts”, and follow them up in ways appropriate for this day and age.

And let us all in the Sumitomo Riko Group grow together.
