The Future Vision Represented by "2029M" and "Gohou-Yoshi (Five-Way Satisfaction)"

: Contributions to the Local Community and the Message Behind the New Poster

As mentioned in my previous blog post, we have launched a new execution plan—the "Medium-term Management Plan 2029 (2029M)"—aimed at realizing the Sumitomo Riko Group Vision 2029 (2029V). In the 2029M plan, building on the achievements of the previous plan (2025P) and guided by the "Gohou-yoshi" philosophy, we have established specific, quantitative targets for each stakeholder.
"Gohou-yoshi" is a fundamental management principle practiced by the Sumitomo Electric Group, signifying the steady return of profits to five key stakeholders: customers, employees, business partners, local communities, and shareholders/investors. In this article, we highlight initiatives concerning local communities—one of these five stakeholder groups.
Notably, the "2029M" plan establishes specific goals for each of these five stakeholder groups.

Sustainability initiatives pursued in partnership with local communities 

To grow alongside the local community, we are advancing initiatives such as social contribution activities, CO₂ emission reductions, and "Eco-Activities 2030."
Our social contribution activities are guided by the philosophy of acting as a "good corporate citizen" and contributing to the creation of a prosperous society; we advance these initiatives from two perspectives: addressing social issues and fostering employee participation.
Specifically, we have established the following five priority areas, aiming to balance contributions to local communities with sustainable business operations. 

・Diversity: Organizing school-readiness programs for children with international background, etc.
・Youth Development: Sponsoring initiatives such as "STI-Gigaku" (an international conference led by students from the Nagaoka University of Technology) and "GEIL" (a student organization that plans and runs the "Policy Proposal Contest for Students"), etc.
・Community Development: Promoting frailty prevention in Komaki City, Aichi Prefecture, etc.
・Civic Activities: Sumitomo Riko’s "Dream, Town, and People-Building Grant," etc.
・Harmony with Nature: Conservation of *satoyama* (traditional rural landscapes) and rare species, eradication of specified invasive alien species, etc. 

To reduce CO2 emissions, we are installing solar power generation systems at bases in countries including Japan, China, Romania, and Spain.
Additionally, SumiRiko Yamagata has switched its purchased electricity to 100% renewable energy.
"Eco-Activities 2030" is one of the initiatives promoted by the Sumitomo Electric Group in the area of living in harmony with nature and our Group places particular emphasis on water resource conservation activities.
This is because our Group’s business activities—such as the cleaning and surface treatment of parts and products, as well as equipment cooling—consume large quantities of water, because our business activities are closely connected to water resources.
We also conduct activities throughout the year—such as forest conservation, the eradication of invasive species, and the protection of rare species—tailored to the specific conditions and regional characteristics of each base.

These initiatives also contribute to advancing the priority activities set out in the 2029M: "Steady Implementation of Climate Change Countermeasures" and "Strengthening Efforts Toward a Circular Economy and Harmony with Nature."

The Vision Behind the "2029V" Poster 

We have renewed the "2029V" poster to reflect our Group's ideal future state—including our commitment to contributing to local communities—while actively involving this year's new recruits, who will help shape the future of our company.
Distribution of this new poster to interested divisions will begin this month.
In conjunction with this distribution, I would like to make a request.
"2029V" is something that will be realized when each and every employee plays a leading role, thinking and acting together with their colleagues.
I hope you will use the posters in each department to spark discussions about how you understand and interpret 2029V and 2029M.
When I visit your workplaces, please do share your thoughts and the initiatives you are working on.

Individual actions shape the future

Sustainability is not something driven solely by the company; it is supported by the mindset and actions of every employee.
When each of us embraces the Group’s goals as our own and takes consistent action from our respective positions, it becomes the driving force that advances sustainability and supports sustainable growth.
Such growth leads to giving back to the local community and delivering new value, while also contributing to the realization of the vision set out in "2029V": to be “A leading solution provider taking on social challenges by collecting whole resources of Sumitomo Riko and its partners.”
I look forward to seeing the posters filled with your aspirations and the challenges you are undertaking. I hope that the accumulation of these aspirations and actions will serve as the driving force behind achieving "2029M" and realizing "2029V."
