Small Steps Can Change the Future - The Meaning Behind Onigiri Action

The "Onigiri Action" is being held from October 7th to November 15th.
This activity is being carried out by TABLE FOR TWO International *1 (hereinafter TFT) to commemorate World Food Day, (October 16 ) established by the United Nations.
This is a social campaign*2 that aims to provide school lunches to children in Africa and Asia through the simple action of posting photos of rice balls on social media and a special website.
The Sumitomo Riko Group continues to support this initiative as a supporting partner, as it did last year.
We do not simply support activities; we value fostering a corporate culture in which each employee contributes to solving social issues through their own actions.

TFT Activities - Onigiri Action is happening all over the world

TFT's activities are a collaborative effort between NPOs, companies, and local governments, with the aim of solving social issues.
It is closely related to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including "No Poverty" (Goal 1) and "Zero Hunger" (Goal 2).

This year, "Onigiri Action FOR JAPAN" is also planned, in which the organization will work with support organizations in Japan to provide food support to children across the country.

"Onigiri Action" and our direction toward 2029

We operate in over 20 countries and are deeply sympathetic to TFT's system of delivering school meals to children around the world through Japanese rice balls.
At the same time, we are working to solve social issues together with our partners around the world, aiming to achieve three goals for 2029, the 100th anniversary of our founding: "Developing people and peers who pioneer the future," "Building a flexible and strong organization," and "Creating value for a sustainable society."

Beyond the Onigiri Connection

This year, as part of the "Sumitomo Riko Attaka Club"*3, we supported the Onigiri Action within the company and held a photo session in the cafeteria.

In addition to the Komaki Head Office and Plants, we also held photo sessions at the Matsusaka Plant, spreading smiles and joy.
Our Matsusaka Plant was featured on television and attracted interest from the local community.
Beyond the smiles that onigiri brings lies our vision -- the "Ideal We Strive For " and the "Future Society We Envision."
We believe that the accumulation of positive actions that aim to contribute even a little to society will lead to the resolution of major social issues, such as achieving the SDGs.
Based on the Sumitomo Spirit's "Banji-nissei," "Shinyo-kakujitsu" and "Fusu-furi," we will continue to work to ensure that each and every one of us can create a virtuous cycle in society through our own actions.
