Reasons for Promoting Health Management

This fiscal year, our company was recognized as one of the top 500 companies on the “White 500” list of companies excelling in health management.
This achievement is not only the result of the dedicated efforts of the responsible division, but also thanks to the sincere and flexible responses of all employees to changes in society and the working environment.
According to the WHO (World Health Organization) definition, “health” is not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, but a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being.

Health is the foundation for our happy lives and simultaneously the source that supports a company’s growth.
For our group to achieve sustainable growth going forward, “health management” is essential. This involves valuing the health of our employees and proactively investing in and promoting health from a management perspective.

Promoting Health Management to Become a Company of Choice

Our group established the “Sumitomo Riko Group Health Management Declaration” in April 2017, based on the belief that “the physical and mental health of all employees and their families is the foundation of sound and sustainable growth.”
In promoting health management, we advance company-wide PDCA cycles based on policies and goals established with top management involvement. Our targets and activities are introduced on our company website.
The importance of health in corporate management continues to grow. We consider this “White 500” certification a significant step forward, as it signifies high recognition of our company as an exemplary organization in health management.
Furthermore, when selecting a place of employment, initiatives for health management are also becoming an important deciding factor, with a growing tendency to prioritize workplaces that value physical and mental well-being.
In fact, I heard similar opinions when speaking with employees who joined our company this year.
I recognize “health” as a positive term that describes the state in which each unique individual is vibrant and well in both mind and body.
Particularly in business environments under rapid change and increasing complexity, it is essential to maintain physical and mental well-being that allows one to feel the enjoyment and potential of work, even amidst a appropriate level of tension and pressure.

For the Future We Aim For

As president, I believe health is the starting point for building a “flexible yet resilient organization” and a “team that embraces change as opportunity and boldly takes on challenges,” and it is the foundation for achieving our 2029V goals.
Our health management aims to achieve both “employee happiness = well-being” and “the company's sustainable growth.”
Physical and mental health fosters vitality and pride in each individual, and should also lead to increased engagement.
I often say, “Let's build a company that is chosen by society and our stakeholders.”
To achieve this, I believe it is essential that our current employees can work feeling healthy and motivated.
Valuing health means valuing people.
I believe that our commitment to health management not only improves work practices and culture but also leads to growth as a company chosen by society.

A Request to Everyone

Managers and leaders, please deeply understand that the health of every individual in your workplace is the foundation for living happily and the source that supports organizational growth. Please advance the creation of a workplace environment where everyone can work vibrantly and healthily.
What I ask of all employees is to take responsibility for protecting and nurturing your own health.
Personally, I consciously strive to maintain a positive mindset, walk over 10,000 steps daily, exercise on weekends, and follow a regular routine.
Our company is fully committed to creating systems and environments that support everyone's safety and health.
Let's work together to create a workplace where all of you can feel secure and fully utilize your abilities.
