Automotive Engineering Exposition 2025

The Automotive Engineering Exposition 2025 YOKOHAMA was held at Pacifico Yokohama from May 21 to 23.
Our company, together with Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. and Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd. have participated in this exhibition every year, and again this year we presented our cutting-edge technologies that support the future of mobility.
The Nagoya exhibition is scheduled to be held at Aichi Sky Expo (Aichi International Exhibition Center) from July 16 to July 18.

Exhibited Products

The following products were exhibited by our group in the field of energy management.
・Thin-film high-heat insulation material “Finesulight”
・Battery cooling plate “Cool Fit Plate”
・Battery side cooling system
In addition, as products related to mobility services,
・Driver monitoring system
・Light transmissive interior products are also introduced.
More details can be found in the “Exhibits” section of the press release issued for external use.
We encourage all employees to read it.

Awareness and Learning at the Venue

I visited the venue immediately after the doors opened and energetically looked around our booth and the exhibits of other companies.
This year, our booth was located near the automobile manufacturers in the exhibition hall, and using the “Noren (shop curtain)” which symbolizes the unity of the three Sumitomo Electric Group companies attracted visitors' attention.
At our booth, under the theme of “Mobility Society Supported by Sumitomo Electric Industries,” large panels introduced our efforts in carbon neutrality, energy management, and mobility services.
Among the Company's exhibits, “Finesulight”, a high-heat insulation material, attracted particular attention. By utilizing our proprietary polymer material technology we made a high-heat insulating filler (silica aerogel) containing nanopores small enough to block the passage of air, into a coating liquid.
This time, we exhibited a developed product that applies this coating to fabric-like textiles, and introduced it as a new solution that contributes to improving fuel and electric costs by increasing the efficiency of air conditioning in the car.
Our staff in charge at the event enthusiastically introduced the product technology to the visitors, and the dialogue was impressive in that it conveyed the background of development, the hardships involved, and the enthusiasm for future development.
The response from visitors was very positive, and I felt that this would lead to PR opportunities in the next and subsequent years.

Stimulation and Prospects for the Future

While touring the exhibition hall, I saw many exhibits that competed with our exhibited products, and I realized once again that our development direction is correct. On the other hand, I also felt the need to further improve the speed of development since it takes time to commercialize a product.
Our staff also actively visited other companies' booths in the limited time available, and received a lot of stimulation from being exposed to the latest technologies.
The exhibition also provided an opportunity for meaningful exchanges with Sumitomo Electric Industries, Sumitomo Wiring Systems, and other Sumitomo Electric Group companies, as well as with people outside the company, who were more active than in previous years.
This year, the online exhibition was held in conjunction with the exhibition again, and the convenience of viewing technological information using AI search has been further enhanced.
However, I realized that there are many insights and discoveries that can only be gained by seeing, touching, and directly interacting with actual products.
This attitude of listening to visitors' interests and questions and tackling social issues one by one is the Group's strength and the very form we are striving to achieve.

Message to the Entire Group Companies

Although this was for mobility-related businesses, the insights and lessons learned are not limited to the Mobility Division, but are common to the entire Group.
Toward the “value creation for a sustainable society” set forth in 2029V, it is important for each of us, regardless of affiliation or role, to take a positive attitude toward change and take on the challenge.
Let us continue to take on the challenge of creating new value by proactively sharing what each of us has noticed with each other.
