I recently made a business trip to Indonesia and Thailand, a milestone in the change of base chiefs.
I was very concerned about it because at overseas subsidiaries the company's condition can change drastically depending on the policy of the base chief.
At each base, I was relieved to see that the sincere efforts of the new base chiefs seemed to result in good performance.
Although I have no experience with overseas assignments myself, I believe that abase chief is a solitary person.
Therefore, I have reaffirmed that we must do everything we can to support them so that they are not burdened with heavy responsibilities alone.
Reporting of Kaizens
At the local factories, I spent from 7:00 a.m. to before 5:00 p.m. going around and asking the employees who had actually implemented the Kaizens one by one based on the examples of Kaizens that the local executives had instructed.
From their reports, I felt that each factory was changing for the better and that they were enthusiastic about the fact that “we are all going to change things together.
I was relieved to see that all of them were sincere in their efforts to improve quality.
At the get-together to console the expatriates, I felt encouraged by their vitality and had a good time myself.
Although Asia is expected to struggle a bit this fiscal year, I encouraged them to “continue to improve and further enhance their capabilities.
